Father’s Day

It’s Father’s Day here in the US and just like Gizmodo has started, I’d like to tell a bit about how my father got me into technology.

The internet first came to Egypt at 1995 or 1996, not long before I was actually born. My dad already bought a computer since before then though there wasn’t much to actually use them for except a few programs. Before I was 2 years old, I actually started to use the computer. I think it was an MC-95 or something, I’m not quite sure. We threw away the computer 4 years ago before I got too into computing. Anyways, there were two games that I loved. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which at the time was a lot like a modern flash platform game in pixelated form and instead of platforms there were enemies in the way you had to kill. I can’t remember ever getting farther than level 2 but I have a pretty bad memory. The other game was Tarzan, do any of you guys remember? I used to love that game with a passion. I managed to beat the entire thing though soon enough it became corrupted.

Anyways, back onto my first computer. We had it in Saudi Arabia. I used to think the mouse was a telephone and whenever my brother would hit me I’d put the mouse roller (Yes I remember the rollers at the bottom of the mouse, I used to play with it when I was 3) up to my ear and starting speaking into it as if my dad was already on there. I would always cry when he never answered. I don’t know when I realized that it wasn’t a telephone. We had that computer for a long time though, probably a decade. We reformatted it only twice though in it’s last year after my brother and I started playing Runescape on it, it caught a virus. To this day I’m not sure what it was but it could have been the shock sites his friends told him about. So since I was still 8 or 9 years old, and my dad isn’t that great with software, we reformatted it but we never managed to get it to work right after that, so we threw it out. I didn’t cry, though it hurt emotionally. Very painful.

So that one computer pretty much holds a great length of my life. I learned to use a computer with it, I cried with it, I even slept close to it a few times. My dad got me my first computer, first point and shoot (not digital, it was amazing though I never managed to get anything good out of it), my first DSLR (not really, it’s more his but it’s fine, it’s the Fujifilm HD2000, it sucks from what I can see), and so much more. If it weren’t for him and viruses (there is a story behind that one too) I would never have gotten into computer and subsequently gadgets or software.

Long time no see guys. It’s Mo again. Anyways, I hope our nonexistent readers haven’t forgotten us already. We’re still alive and we’re finally finished with the first version of our website. Coded and modified by Dominic, the good majority of it designed by me. We’re not sure at the moment when you can see it up since it does cost some money but we think that there is a good possibility we’ll have it up before the year is over. Until then, we’re thinking of a few more projects
How about Youtube? I personally think that it could help us a bit in the future but I guess Dominic doesn’t. That program that we haven’t even talked about in a while? Well I don’t know but I hope we’ll work on it soon and maybe we’ll come up with a good idea soon but until then, we’re out. Goodbye

ThoughtSpeech – A Webdesign page

This post is just for my web design. I needed something over 200 characters for testing, just to see how much space it would take up on my page. This also a good opportunity for me to explain what ThoughtSpeech is, and cover some other points. ThoughtSpeech is run by two friends who decided they need somewhere to stick everything, and hope they get noticed by the world. We both have our skills in a range of different IT things. You can find out more about what we can do, and what we are planning to do on the projects page which will soon be updated will full C.V’s, as far as we can. We are both 13, and I’m sure you know our education is not full, but please do not let this affect your judgment. Check our work before leaving.

EDIT: Well hello everybody, I’m the other 13 year old working with Dominic. Since he hasn’t exactly explained ThoughtSpeech well, I want to go a bit more in-depth with you about it, if you’ll allow me to. Firstly, I’m sure you’re wondering why are we using the name ‘ThoughtSpeech’? Well, if any of you have read a book named 1984 by George Orwell (a very good read), you’ll know about NewSpeak, the language spoken in Oceania. Now, two prominent words in that section are ThoughtCrime and the language itself, NewSpeak. So I thought to myself one day, what could be a possible name for us? Then I thought back to 1984, how everyone is restricted and I told myself, well if we can change those words to something that will ENCOURAGE freedom, something that both Dominic and I support (like useful software that isn’t governed by proprietary licenses) then perhaps there could be some good from this after all.

So now that we’re off the topic of the name, what exactly is ThoughtSpeech? Well we like to think of ourselves as a company. Sure we’re a long way off from being an actual company or even a small business, but we still think that we have something to offer. As two individuals, we’re both rather informed about computer security. We’re not the smartest but we know more than your general run-of-the-mill 13 year olds.

Now getting to the members, Dominic and I live in different countries. We originally met when we began talking about Linux on a forums (I will not specify which one) and we soon began to talk over MSN. We soon learned that we were both only 12 years of age. There forth, we began to talk often, and we later became close friends. Eventually, at the ripe age of 13, as geeks we created this company, if you would.

If you want to know about each of us separately, we have good enough abilities. Dominic is the coder, he knows Python, HTML, a bit of CSS, PHP, and I believe some C++ and he is pretty good at graphics design. Me, well I’m the actual designer. I have an eye for design from being in graphics design for a while and I created the website design (it was a bit different originally but we had to change it to make it easier to code.) I also know some HTML, some C++ and I’m planning on learning CSS, Javascript, PHP, and Java.
